To show the fields produced by an electric current are identical to those of a magnet. A very high voltage is applied to two variable distance electrodes in a dish to which has been added castor oil. When semolina seeds are placed evenly on top of the oil and a voltage applied the seeds form the pattern of the field produced. A Van De Graff machine produces a similar voltage.
