The IEC Electric Motor / Generator set consists of two medium size electric motors strongly mounted side by side on a small base. The motors are coupled together by a small rubber belt. The pulleys are equal size and therefore the ratio is 1:1.

Either motor can be run as a motor or a DC generator or both can be run as motors that can either add or subtract their powers. The conversion from electrical to mechanical energy can be studied together with the conversion from mechanical to electrical.

The motor size has been chosen to be large enough that reasonable efficiency figures can be obtained and the motor windings have a reasonably large number of turns so the running speed does not need to be very high for good results. Experiments in motor efficiency, power, torque, work done, losses and generator efficiency can be performed with this instrument.

Connection to each motor is by 4mm banana plug.
