When strong light shines on its back, the Solar Spider jumps and spins about.
$13.00 $14.30

Far from seeking-out dark corners, this spider loves light. The brighter, the better! In fact, when strong light shines on his back, the Solar Spider jumps and spins about in excitement. His preference for sun over shade, might have something to do with the solar panel mounted on his back, powering an internal mini-engine. So, no need to be afraid, this black spider will do more entertaining and teaching, than scaring.

What You Get

Solar Spider in a simple blister pack. The spider measures 9cm in length.

How does it work?

No batteries needed. Just place the Solar Spider in direct sunlight, and watch him come to life. He moves and jumps backwards and forwards, and spins almost as if he is searching for food. The solar panel on his back transforms light energy into electrical energy which, in-turn, powers a tiny internal motor. The Solar Spider is a great working demonstration of a solar panel. Or use him to spark classroom discussion about using clean, environmentally-friendly energy sources as an alternative to burning fossil fuels.

Teach

  • Solar energy.
  • Solar cells, and how they convert light energy into electrical energy.
  • Fossil fuels and their harmful impact on the environment.
  • Global warming and the greenhouse effect.
  • Alternative, clean and renewable energy sources.

FAQ

The Solar Spider needs direct light to operate correctly. On overcast days or for indoor demonstrations, a spotlight or strong torch can be used as an alternative light source to the sun.
